Professionally Photograph My Graduating Senior.......Why???

"All Aboard!!!  Last Stop Until Adulthood!!"

Class of 2018

There are times when parents of graduating high school seniors ask me the following question:  "So what is the point of professionally photographing my high school senior?"   I immediately ask them if they can recall the most exciting moments/memories in their child’s first 17 to 18 years of life.  For instance, that moment they saw their child’s excitement when they took their first steps or the proud look on their child’s face when they finally got their first base hit or landed their first flip in gymnastics.  Or maybe they recall the anxious moments before their child sat behind the wheel of the family car for the first time.  Not that a parent truly needs a reminder of these and all the other special moments or events in their child’s lives but it is a real reminder of the blood, sweat, and tears that you, as a parent, have invested into raising your independent, happy, and free thinking young adult.  You have prepared your child to leave the comfort of your family nest.  You are excited to see them leave the wonderful confines of the family home and go conquer the world!  As a parent you are proud of your accomplishment!   (Well, here’s a little secret)  You are going to miss them dreadfully.  It’s at that moment you realize your child is no longer your child but now an adult.  (Now for the rub)  Professionally photographing your high school senior is actually for you, the parent!!  Professionally photographing your senior is a celebration of your accomplishments as a parent; a wonderful opportunity to capture, look back, and recall the free thinking and independent child you worked so hard to cultivate.  So as much as a Professional Senior portrait session is for your graduating senior, as parents, the senior portrait experience is truly for you! You got them here!  So I tell parents, go ahead and let’s have your graduating senior photographed.  Let’s not lose this opportunity to capture your child’s last moments of childhood with professional images because you know the next time I photograph your “child” it will be when they say “I do”!  (wink, wink).
